Making history, connecting our people with the underground `aina… I have lived in Hawaii 43 yrs., 10 yrs. in Kailua; my business has been in Kalaheo hillside for 17 years. Mana Ikaika Inc. is using Battery 405 for its Kailua Underground Date Center for archiving, digital and data backup storage.
Today, most of us trust our lives’ most important work, events, and memories to digital storage. “I can’t open them now – they’re just gibberish. Is there any way to make them readable again?” situation highlights two common problems: storage media doesn’t last forever, and modern software might not be able to read old files. Social media and trusting our data to the cloud only makes things more complicated. Our digital lives aren’t just on our devices, they’re spread across the entire Internet. How can we preserve our digital legacies, and make sure they’ll be accessible in the future?
Data center spending is soaring. According to a Fortune report, the US saw $18.2 billion in investment for building or buying data centers in the first half of 2017. Over the last 5 years, there has been a total of $45 billion investment in this sector. Some of this growth is taking place underground. Data center developers are using subterranean facilities to save time, money and resources.
